Population Reference Bureau Presents the Following Workshop:

Labor Productivity and Fertility – Using the
Canning-Karra-Wilde Model

8th African Population Conference
With Marlene Lee, Organizer and Co-Facilitator;
Jeff Jordan, Co-Facilitator; Mahesh Karra, Instructor; and
Joshua Wilde, Instructor.

Tuesday, 19 November 2019
4:30 PM – 7:30 PM

We hope you will participate in workshop “Labor Productivity and Fertility – Using the Canning-Karra-Wilde Model” with instructors Mahesh Karra and Joshua Wilde. The workshop will provide hands-on experience in using a pre-populated spreadsheet to estimate economic outcomes, focusing on labor productivity, under two fertility scenarios. In the case where more individuals express interest than there is available space, preference will be given to researchers who recently received their advanced degree.

If you would like to participate in this workshop, please fill out the Expression of Interest Form by Monday, November 4. The workshop will take place on Wednesday, 19 November from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM at the Imperial Beach Resort Hotel. Because space is limited, workshop organizers will confirm your attendance with you via email. The room will be announced to confirmed participants. Refreshments will be served.

In the population and development field, among models that attempt to demonstrate the potential demographic dividend resulting from a demographic transition and change in population structure, the CKW model is the only dynamic model of economic growth over time. Analysis undertaken with the CKW model may be accomplished with the spreadsheet developed by the model’s authors. PRB has worked with Karra and Wilde to make the model calculations more accessible to researchers who may wish to apply it to other high fertility countries. We have developed a suite of aids, including a manual, an output database, and sample R-code to extract model results for use with other statistical or graphing programs.

We look forward to receiving your expression of interest. Thank you.
